The livestock business is noteworthy in Pakistan. In fact, the country stands at 5th rank when it comes milk production. Sadly, 0.3 % a very minute amount of milk is being processed leaving a huge vacuum for economy to boost. The utilization of cow manure for anaerobic digestion to produce biogas is a state-of-the-art process and catching attention of the people due to global warming and energy crises.
Cow manure is the excellent bio-waste to generate biogas and can also be co-digest with other agri-waste. It increases the biogas production when co-digested with wheat straw, rice husk, and other useable carbonaceous materials. Fresh cow manure helps to start the inoculation (To start anaerobic reaction) since it contains methano-bacteria. In a bio-reactor, it acts as an excellent carrier for heat and mass transfer.
It has high buffer capacity, in other words, it resists the change in pH of the solution in bio-reactor. It also contains high amount of nutrients that favors optimal growth of bacteria.
Cow manure also used to balance the organic acid formation throughout the metabolic reactions.
It is very unfortunate to say, the country like Pakistan is so reluctant to bring local people and governing bodies on the same page to address the challenges to handle agri-waste in urban as well as rural communities.
