Earth Crust: History of Earth Density

The history of Earth’s density is anachronism in the world due to no access to the information about the history of earth in the world. The anthology of earth’s density shows the antiquated data on the information available on the internet which is apocryphal.

The article is about the density of earth. It is about history of density and it is a part of archives so that so that historian may be able to evaluate it for the amendment. There was a very famous scientist named Cavendish. He loves geology so much. In modern world, we can call him geologists. Cavendish scientific finding includes density of earth in 1799. He was known as the first scientist to discover the density of earth in the history of world.

In the antecedent of Cavendish discovery, there were other three accretions of scientists after Cavendish in the early history of the world to calculate the density of earth. It was after 164 years that three scientists appear to aggregate the work on the density of earth. Their name and work is shown in the following table.

The earth density was calculated in 1799 by geologist Cavendish. It appeared during the experiment that the density of earth is around 5.5 g/cm3, first calculated in 1799.  The next development in the research was carried by Bullen in 1963 to calculate the density of earth is to be 5.517 g/cm3. Bullen calculated the density of surface rock as 2.8 g/cm3, density of earth as whole as 5.5 g/cm3 and density of earth for depth within the core of the earth is estimated at 11.9 g/cm3.

Bullen calculated the density of earth by detailed mathematical models showing general increase in density as you move from surface rock to near the core of the earth.

In 1964 Birch, the density of earth calculated by Bullen is excessive and is in ambivalence and conflict with modern shock wave data.

In the same year 1964, Clark and Ringwood developed two earth models to calculate the inner core density of earth. According to two models, the inner core densities calculated to appear on the scale as 12.86 g/cm3 and 13.26 g/cm3 respectively.


History of Earth’s Density: The earth’s density was first calculated in 1799. After the remarkable win, there was a second scientist Bullen who work on the density of earth 1963, and in the following year 1964 Birch conducted the experiment to calculated the density of earth. In the same year 1964, two scientists Clark and Ringwood had developed two models to calculate the density of earth.


Why there was a huge gap from 1799 to 1963 to conduct experiment on the research topic Earth’s density?


It is for about 164 year (One hundred and sixty four years), no work had been done on the density of earth. It means there was no scientific work done on the density of earth. How about Cavendish? Why he was ignored for his contribution to the world? Why there was an abrupt following to do experiments in series by Bullen, Brich, Clark and Ringwood on the density of earth?
